Curriculum Approach

As per scientific research, it has been proven that the rate of development in early childhood is more rapid than at any other stage in a human's life. Ninety per cent of brain development takes place by the time the child is of 6 years of age. The neural connections in the brain get strengthened or pruned, based on the quality and consistency of experiences received from the environment.

Emphasising on these experiences, the National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage, 2022 aims to help change practices in education and not just the ideas. It focusses on the holistic overall development of the children through transformational learning experiences.

The VIBGYOR curriculum weaves 21st Century Skills and the theories, approaches coined by eminent National and International early childhood educationists like Mahatma Gandhi, Jiddu Krishnamurti, Gijubhai Badheka, Tarabai Modak, Maria Montessori, John Dewey, Jean Piaget, Howard Garner, Friedrich Frobel and Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi to name a few. These developmentally appropriate teaching pedagogies are extensively used to inculcate valuable learning experiences for our learners, ensuring that they evolve into individuals who can make a difference to the society at large.

The foundation of our educational philosophy since two decades found its endorsement when the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) and the National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage (NCF, 2022) of India confirmed that ‘Play-based and Child-centric’ approaches are the best pedagogies for early years education. Our teaching methodology and pedagogy include the objectives, guiding principles, practices and learning outcomes outlined in the NCF, 2022, making it a suitable choice for parents to provide their children with a quality education that meets National Standards and is armed with the best global practices.

Few salient features of our curriculum are:
Child-centricApproach Life-centred andActivity-basedApproach Story-basedApproach Whole-childApproach SpiralApproach Integratedand ThematicApproach Play-basedApproach Blended LearningApproach
Play-based Approach

Play stimulates curiosity, exploration and creativity while also developing social and language skills. Following this approach to learning, our curriculum imbibes appropriate opportunities around structured and unstructured play to enable the learners to explore materials and activities based on their interests, thus making the learning a joyful journey.

Story-based Approach

Stories are a great way to promote literacy, develop thinking strategies and to promote social and emotional development among children. Language is a true vehicle of self-expression and stories help children easily acquire language, as they offer them a world of multitude of language-rich opportunities. Our curriculum draws on the benefits of this approach and engages children in concepts through stories, making the concepts relatable, fun and comprehensible.

Blended Learning

Adhering to this educational approach, our curriculum is presented through a comprehensive and unique amalgamation of digital learning (to promote Digital Literacy and Citizenship), direct learning and concrete learning experiences to the children.

Life-centred and Activity-based Approach

This approach combines three specific elements of 'HAND (stimulation) - HEAD (thinking) and - HEART (nurturing)' to provide a comprehensive approach to support the development and well-being of learners. Our curriculum provides children with opportunities, to learn by 'doing' through 'concrete' life situations, thus building the skills necessary for daily life and developing intrinsic moral values.

Integrated and Thematic Approach

This approach emphasises on interweaving teacher-directed and child-directed activities. Our curriculum empowers children to develop their understanding of concepts based on their prior knowledge and build on it using real-life examples to make learning engaging and relevant. It also facilitates children’s exploration of different subject areas, connected and integrated through a theme, leading to their holistic development.

Spiral Approach

Our curriculum includes key skills and concepts, presented through repetition and constant reinforcement. It progresses and deepens in complexity from 3 years to 6 years of age allowing children to build on their existing knowledge and skills.

Whole-child Approach

Encouraged by this approach, our curriculum framework takes the learning beyond the academics and the classroom, wherein it integrates all the domains of Early Child Development to support the child’s overall development.

Child-centric Approach

Putting emphasis on this approach, our curriculum focusses on providing children choices of learning activities, with the teacher acting as the facilitator of learning. It aims at making children 'active participants' and be responsible for their own learning.
